Trip to the zoo

We watched a monkey drama unfold at the zoo with the dominant monkey shaking the cages every couple of minutes to reinforce his "status", a baby monkey running away from his momma, and a couple of monkeys flirting with each other.

The tigers and the leopards didn't want to show us their faces. My husband yelped at me to look at the owl, and of course it had a mouse in its mouth - yuck! There was a 40 ft python in a clear glass enclosure and it looked like it could eat one of us easily.

We fed food to the koi goldfish and enjoyed a dinner buffet outside.

Pooped a heart

My hubby was changing uchi's diaper and hollered at me to come and look at his poop. I rolled my eyes, but hubby said you gotta see this. It was a heart-shaped poop!

"He poops hearts!" my hubby exclaimed.

The next day he asked uchi if he pooped any hearts for him again.

A Day of Many Firsts

Yesterday was a day of many firsts:

Uchi had his first swimming lesson and enjoyed playing the water with bouncy balls, rubber duckies, and foam tubes.

He had his first haircut and to my surprise did not cry one bit but actually was humming a tune which getting his hair done. Also he had his first lollipop (dum-dum cherry) and it helped distract him too.

We got rid of the "tail" or the mullet-esque part of the back of his head. I miss it but it does look much better esp. since it is so warm out now in the middle of the summer.

We also went to the petting zoo again and he touched a black baby goat who came running to him and wanted to play. Llamas were so cute with long eyelashes.

Aqua lad - swimming pool fun

At first he was a bit scared but after a few minutes got more relaxed and even did a few kicks in the water while mom and dad held him in the water. He looked so cute in his wet suit mock turtleneck top and yellow/blue hawaiian swim shorts. He was layered in three levels of potty protection; swim diaper, swimpants, and swim shorts. He definitely is a water baby. He is an aquarius and is happened to be named after a river too.

every day is amazing

Little one is making great strides in his development. His latest achievements are:

1) twirling, around and around while dancing
2) tries to "wash his hair" during bath time
3) shares his food and tries to feed his parents once he is somewhat satisfied. He'll give you a pineapple but then takes it right back into his mouth if he is hungry.
4) points to the sky whenever he sees a bird or plane.
5) jumps up and down like he is pretending to ride a horse when we see a horse.
6) says vroom vroom when playing with cars
7) gives kisses when he feels like it
8) says hi to dogs and people when he wants to
9) goes down the spiral slide in the playground all by himself
10) takes off his own diaper when he wants to

trible

So my hubby got a "trible" from the star trek store in las vegas. It essentially is a fur ball with a battery in it. The whole thing vibrates when you hug it or clap. My little one loves it, even though it has no face or eyes. I think it's cute that he thinks a fur ball is a fun toy. He walks around with this big ball of fur, haha. Those star trek guys are genius.

super glued my foot

I accidentally spilled super glue onto the carpet and stepped on it. For a minute there I panicked because I was stuck but was able to reach some scissors and snip the carpet away from my foot, whew.

I witnessed the little one's first kiss? at school today. He kissed another one year old on the cheek and she was unphased, just smiling the whole time. So sweet.

love of fries

I've been eating Mcdee's for lunch and would give a few fries to the little one when I picked him up from the sitter. He started getting used to it that the other day he reached his hand towards me while he was in his carseat expecting me to give him fries. So I'll be slowing down on fast food for now.

Bubble tea

I am so addicted to bubble tea. I wish I had a nearby go-to place for it. I love the chewy tapioca pearls and the wide fun straws and the icy tea drink. Errr, when is Starbucks going to add it to their menu?

Spa World

There's a Korean spa that opened up in Centrevillle, VA. I love it! As soon as I walked in I felt like I was transported back to Korea. The women's bath area is huge and has a gi-normous whirlpool pool with different massaging water stations and fountains. There are smaller pools with differing temperatures with different things like the aloe pool, tea pool etc. There's also a dry sauna and wet sauna. The hot rooms (additional charge) is basically a jjim-jil-bang with a multitude of hot rooms. There is a red clay room where the ground is laced with red clay marbles and you lie down on the very warm marbles and melt into the them. There is a jewel hut, at 150 degrees it is warm but the jewel-encrusted mosaic walls are a pleasure to the eyes. Theres's also a cold room at 40 degrees the walls are laced with what looks like inner refrigerator/freezer piping, I felt like I walked into a human fridge. In the main area of the hot rooms there is an open floor to sit/lie down and watch TV. Also on the side is a cafe that serves boba and iced coffee and also a restaurant that serves the Korean food staples. What's good about it is that you don't have to carry your wallet around to buy food to eat as it is processed by the locker bracelet you get when you check in. It's $35 for both the hot rooms and spa but if you have several hours to kill I think it is worth it. I can't wait to go back.

Tang mouth

Little one likes Tang to my surprise. I thought it would be too tart for him. He had a few sips from my cup and then an orange ring appeared on the sides of his mouth, creating almost a joker-like face. Photo op!

talking on the phone

Before the little one would just listen when playing with the phone, when I pretended to talk on the phone. Now he puts the phone or any similar sized object next to his ear (usually turned out the wrong way) and is starting to have pretend conversations. He does this while walking back and forth and it sounds like he is asking questions to the pretend person he is speaking to cause his inflections go up as he talks.

passport photo adventure

So we went to walgreen's to get our little one's passport photo taken. It's only $7.99 so a good deal. After what we went through to get the picture, they should of charged us more. The mgr had to help take the picture, and the little one wouldn't sit still of course. First we tried holding him still on a stool. That didn't work so then we tried standing him on the ground, nope. I tried putting him on my shoulders, he was a wiggle worm. We took a few breaks and let him roam around the store. Then he wanted to sit in the shopping cart, and it occurred to me that we could try to get his picture while he was seated this way. I rolled him to where the white backdrop was and the mgr was able to take his pic. Whew hoo! Now if only I had the foresight to wipe his face before he got the picture taken...

Affectionate little one

Little one the other morning woke up and gave me two big kisses. When he does this, he has this half-open mouth and says "ahhhh" as he goes in to give a kiss. So cute. He also gave his daddy a kiss and gave his teacher hugs today. Very affectionate day.

Green giant vs. the hulk

My hubby mentioned a good point, it's hard to tell the difference between the green giant and the hulk. Maybe we can use this similarity to entice our little one to eat more veggies, hehe.

Sea monster

Ok, so the little one is obsessed with seaweed consumption. But then again he is an aquarius so maybe that explains it. Taking care of his diapers AFTER seaweed consumption is another matter. I make him tiny "sushi" rolls, basically tiny seaweed squares with a few grains of cooked white rice. He makes a sticky mess out of them and it sticks to his clothes but he's like a moving snack car cause I can pick off some rice on his shirt as a snack later.

Easter Egg Hunt

So there was a egg hunt at a local park for the little ones so we took ours and missed the 1 year old hunt. So the next one was for the 3 year olds and as soon as they blew the whistle, all the toddlers were hurriedly picking up all the eggs and did so so quickly that the lawn was clear within just a few minutes. We barely managed to grab one egg for our little one and he displayed it proudly as I snapped a key pic. So the lesson of the day is that even 3 year olds have a competitive instinct in themselves, not to be underestimated.

Easter bunny adventures

Once the little one started to take a few steps, within a month he is walking everywhere. Took him to the mall to get his pic taken with the easter bunny. Should of brought my own camera to take additional pictures. He had fun climbing onto the giant pastel colored fake eggs. He tried to the pet the giant costumed-bunny and then had a fit almost as soon as I put him on the bunny's lap.

Paci behavior

Little one knows when it's time to take the paci out of his mouth. For instance, he takes it out of his mouth right before he sneezes and then he puts it back in his mouth afterwards. You would think at such a young age he would just sneeze and let the paci fall out.
I guess when you are a first time parent you get to appreciate the smaller developments children display and get true happiness out of it.

doljanchi

We celebrated our little one's b-day the traditional Korean way by wearing hanbok and serving Korean food. We also did doljabee where we layed out objects representing different potential occupations and he picked a book first (scholar), and then a football (football player). Instead of a cake, we custom order a huge round rice cake filled with beans, peas, and other sweet stuff. The korean food consisted of kalbi, marinated cucumber, seafood with broccoli, sweet/sour chicken, veggie tempuras, kimchi, rice, tofu, american sandwich platter, cherry pie, rhubarb pie, chapchae etc.

Little one is turning one soon

Gosh, the first year of my little one's life went by pretty fast. He's no longer a baby but a toddler now. Already with a mind of his own, he goes into period of independent play acting really busy. If he only knew what it's like to be a grown up. He's got 20 years of playtime ahead of him before he needs to start working.
